Telluride With Kids: A Family Guide for Winter and Summer

Telluride with kids works because town is walkable, the gondola is free, and a 2-bedroom condo beats a hotel corridor when someone needs a nap. Unit 331 at Telluride Lodge (747 W Pacific Ave) is the family setup we know: a king, a queen, twin bunks, a sleeper sofa, 2 baths (1 toilet), a kitchen, laundry, and a ski closet at the door. Across the creek is Lift 7. Clark’s Market is next to the lodge. The public listing puts Town Park at about a 15-minute walk.
This is a family trip guide, not a daycare brochure. Ages and hours below come from Telluride Ski & Golf’s current ski school and kids camp pages as of October 2026. Re-check tellurideskiresort.com before you enroll, because products change by season.
Ski school ages and where the lessons live

The Children’s Ski & Snowboard School lists lessons for ages 3–14: Otters (3–4, ski), Bears (5–6), and Eagles (7–14). Skiers can start at 3; snowboard lessons listed for children start at 5. Lesson blocks are generally 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Children’s Center is under Gondola Plaza in Mountain Village. Reservations go through 970-728-7414 or TellurideSkiSchool.com.
That is the honest split for a Telluride Lodge stay: you walk to Lift 7 for family laps on the town side, then gondola when a child has school in the village. Pack snacks for the plaza, and do not count on a 3-year-old nailing first chair after a Montrose transfer. First-day altitude at 8,750 feet hits kids too; keep day one shorter than the brochure.
The free gondola, Town Park, and easy days

The gondola is the family transit trick. It ties Telluride to Mountain Village (about 13 minutes up), is free, and typical posted hours run early morning to midnight, later on peak Friday and Saturday nights. In summer it is also the ride to the San Sophia midpoint and the Telluride Nature Center, and to the Mountain Village playground near the plaza. Small kids treat it as the attraction.
Town Park is the in-town reset: playground, seasonal swimming pool, skate park, fishing pond, and basketball. From Unit 331 you are on the west end of Pacific; plan a walk or a Goose ride rather than a car. For first easy walking, stay on the park lawns and the river corridor. Named trails and elevation jumps belong in the hiking guide, and they are a poor day-one plan with kids still adjusting to the altitude.
Summer camps and a condo that actually fits a family

Telluride Ski & Golf’s Kids Camps are posted for ages 5–14: full-day, weeklong outdoor days (hiking, games, local ecology). Enroll on the resort site; we do not run camp logistics from the condo. Between camp, the gondola, and Town Park, you still want a kitchen and laundry. That is why a bunk-room condo near Lift 7 beats two hotel rooms.
At Unit 331 the bunks are the kids’ room. Six people is the adult cap; seven total only if you use the sleeper sofa. The second bath has a shower and sink, not a second toilet, which matters with little kids at 6 a.m. Communal lodge hot tubs (indoor with steam, plus outdoor) take a swimsuit and the key fob by the door. One parking space comes with the unit; extra family cars need the Pacific Avenue garage.
Book winter ski-school weeks and summer camp weeks as soon as the calendar opens (direct stays up to 12 months ahead). Confirm lesson and camp products on the resort site, then book the condo direct if the total is the one you want to pay.
